1、replace的原义为“把……放回原处”引申为“取代”、“更换”指人或物因各种原因而更替。

All the old carpets need replacing.

所有的旧地毯都需要更换。

The line went dead. Whitlock replaced the receiver.

2、replace作及物动词，与介词with/by连用时，意为（用…）替换；（以…）接替。

例如：He will be difficult to replace when he leaves.

他离开后，他的位置很难有人接替。

It is not a good idea to miss meals and replace them with snacks.

不吃正餐，改吃点心，这不是什么好主意。

3、当replace表示取代某人而作为……的含义时，常与介词as连用。
